Girlfriend's Hair is falling out after Highlighting?

My Girlfried went to get her hair highlighted at the hairdresser about 3 weeks ago. Ever since then an abnormal amout of hair is coming out after shampooing and combing. She noticed that the hairdresser who seemed to be in a hurry did not shampoo her hair before highlighting. Her hair did seem to be kind of wire 'y' right after the highlighting.

Is it possible they burnt her hair during beaching, and that is the cause of her hair falling out?

Hair coming out after major processing (such as hair coloring and highlighting) is very common. I've never known a stylist/colorist to shampoo anyone before processing (coloring). Her hair has been damaged from the highlighting, but everyone goes through this if you don't take the steps to moisturize!!!! She needs to find moisturizing products (shampoo's, conditioner's, hot oil treatments, etc). There are products out there (can be found practically anywhere) that are specifically for colored/processed hair. She should use these products to keep her highlights looking healthy %26amp; it will help the color last a bit longer. Heat (like blow drying, curling, and straightening) can aggravate the drying out.

Is this the first time she's had this done? If so, her stylist (a good one that cares about their customers) should have informed her on what to do and which products to use after she highlighted her hair.

She needs to moisturize!!! ;-)

Yes, it's possible. I would suggest soaking her hair in hot oil once a week, and using repairing shampoos/conditioners, and masks. I'm very sorry about the highlights! Good luck to your girlfriend!

Very possible - I had an "involuntary MOHAWK" down the middle of my part after a similar experience. Go now and get a hot oil treatment or some extreme moisturizing treatment before it starts breaking off where the color is. Good luck sweetie!

It sounds like there might have been a problem during the chemical processing. There are many products that can be used for highlighting, so if the hairdresser used something too strong, it could be a possibility. As far as the shampooing, hairdressers normally do not shampoo before a color treatment...dirty hair takes color better than freshly washed hair. Also, your pores in the scalp open up when your head is washed...which you don't want during a color. It makes the chemicals burn more.

If I were her...I would never go back there for treatment. She should mention it (and show her hair) to the store manager though, to complain. To get a decent dye job, you should be paying $80-120...good color doesn't come cheap. I know.

I would say they did a lot of damage to her hair. First make a mental note and do not trust them to dye her hair again. Some things to help already damaged hair, I am currently using patine pro v 10x stronger hair and it works wonders on my damaged hair. However mine was not chemical damaged. I suggest that she try Infusiam23 they have a 3 step treatment called (repair)ologie the 3rd steam is a leave-in treatment that may work wonders. Have her keep in mind that she needs a product that will help keep moisture and nutrients in her hair rather than ones that will strip these things away.
