This depends on the tone of your hair and skin. Warmer chestnut browns look good with honey colored highlights, where as more auburn and red tone browns look good with a red or golden highlight. Ashy shades of brown need a cooler toned blonde in them to look natural. I would consult your colorist or bring in a picture that inspires you. Just be sure to check that the color will compliment your skin tone at all times of the year. Nothing worse than a girl with a beautiful dye job that belongs on someone else.

caramel, light brown, red, red-violets- all look good with dark brown hair. do not go blonde. although, i dont say that because 'it doesnt look natural', i say it because blonde on brown never looks right. not everyone wants natural looking hair, i know i dont. i like mine to be bold and very unnatural looking. I have very dark brown hair and every time I've gotten highlights, i get a red. My last one has faded into a lighter brown and it looks nice too. so i guess red or a lighter brown? you could always ask the hair stylist too.
