well ur black/brown hair is not going to take to a light color unless its straight up bleach(and even then it might not turn THAT light!)

i had dark hair and i wanted it my blond again...so this is what i did:

got a color stipper (coloropps..you can buy it at walgreens or rite aid..and it actually does take all the black out)

once you got ypur hair stripper (and deep conditioned!!) done your hair should be alot lighter!!

THEN you can use the bleach to make the blond streaks or what ever your going to do..sometimes it even looks good after you stripped your hhair and you may not want to bleach it or anything.

you can get the stuff for bleach at sallys beauty supply..

if you dont think you can do all that (and u prolly can!) then just go to a salon.

You should seek a proffesional,

and ask for all your hair to be stripped of colour then blonde hi-lighted.

your hair will only turn ginger if you try and lift black hair with hi-lights.

Good Luck

ask a stylist what they would recommend doing i can't really advise you without a pic and wanting to know what you want doing....

Please don't highlight your dark hair!! I had dark blonde hair and to go light blonde I had to have my natural stripped and bleached - and my hair wasnt even dark! Go and seek a professional - it will cost money but if you really want to get it done then it'll be worth it. If you try putting light highlights on your hair as it is now, it will go a gingery colour.

It can be difficult to lighten black hair so a good hairdresser will suggest you have some golden/caramel highlights in your hair to start with (going too light can be a bit of a shock) and they will suggest you visit every 8 weeks to gradually lighten it further.

Going lighter can 'lift' your face and even make you look younger.
